Thanksgiving in Atlantic City
For most Americans, Thanksgiving is a family holiday. Go to a relative’s house, stuff your face on turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. Then the men go watch the football games while the women clean up.
But if you think Atlantic City casinos are ghost towns on Turkey Day, you’re mistaken. I’ve been there, and it’s crowded. First, there are a lot of Asian immigrants who don’t celebrate the holiday, have the day off work, and love to gamble. Add in ordinary Americans whose families are far away or whatever, and you have a mob scene in the gaming halls.
If you want to get together with friends or family and don’t feel like cooking (or cleaning up afterwards), the casinos will be happy to accommodate you. All three Trump properties are offering turkey dinners with all the trimmings in their gourmet rooms, with most prices lower than $35 per person. McCormick & Schmick’s at Harrah’s, better known for its seafood, is hosting a three-course turkey dinner for $23. And that’s just to name a few.
If you have your heart set on a particular restaurant, make your reservation now. But if you go to Atlantic City on a whim next Thursday, I’m sure every coffee shop will have turkey on the menu and it will be plentiful on all the buffets.
