Memorial Day weekend starts in one week! Time to start using the back roads to avoid the traffic, but I love summer at the shore.

   The start of summer means the beach bars will open, so you can enjoy your favorite libation and a snack while listening to the roar of the ocean and smelling the salt air – and checking out the hot bodies, of course.

   The bars open Friday, May 28, except for The Deck at Trump Marina, which opens on the 21st.

   Bally’s is changing its beach-bar theme this year. Gone is the Bikini Beach Bar (but probably not the bikinis) and Sammy Hagar’s Beach Bar is arriving. Run by the rock star of Van Halen fame, it will feature Tex-Mex fusion, Jersey-shore style, in the spirit of his famous Cabo Wabo. He also promises some big-name entertainment, and they say he’ll show up on the scene from time to time.

   Trump Plaza’s beach bar, named among the sexiest by the Travel Channel, is holding specials almost every night of the week plus some special events. They’ll have a Lady Gaga tribute on the Fourth of July, as a heads up.

   Expect live music and other specials at The Deck at Trump Marina. The Hilton hasn’t released any details of their beach bar. It’s usually a little more sedate than the others, so it’s a good place to enjoy the atmosphere and some conversation.
