Atlantic City, N.J. (February 14, 2012) – Showboat Atlantic City is getting ready to present Mardi Gras 2012, a five day celebration of themed events, entertainment, contests, promotions and plentiful food and beverage offerings.

During Mardi Gras 2012, Showboat Atlantic City is offering guests a chance to enjoy free, live entertainment in the lobby with the musical stylings of The Crawdaddy Band, the East Coast’s premiere Louisiana Cajun, Zydeco, Blues act.  Additionally, the lobby at Showboat will feature the Cajun Brothers, a group known for their over-the-top brand of bayou-blues-rock.

In honor of Mardi Gras, Showboat’s restaurants are serving up N’awlins favorites. The French Quarter Buffet is offering Whole Roast Pig, Seafood Jambalaya, and King Cake. Mansion Café will serve Crab Cake Benedict with Cajun Hollandaise and Shrimp Gumbo. Scarduzio’s Steak | Sushi | Lounge is serving Blackened Prime Rib and Shrimp Creole. Casa di Napoli offers Cajun cuisine with the Blackened Bronzino and Crawfish Etouffe. Foundation Room is treating customers with Pecan Crusted Gulf Trout and Sticky Toffee Pudding. Finally the House of Blues Restaurant delivers a mouth-watering delight with Oyster Po’ Boys and Shrimp, Crawfish Etoufee, and some authentic Who Dat beverages like $5 Abita Beers and $5 Bayou Breeze Cocktails.

Guests looking to make some Doubloons, can cash in with Showboat’s Mardi Gras $50,000 sweepstakes, which is open to the public.  On February 18th at 2pm, on the main concourse at Showboat, Total Rewards Members can begin swiping their Total Rewards cards at the promotional kiosks to enter.  Drawings are held at 3pm, 4pm, 5pm, and 6pm, with 10 winners chosen every hour.  Additionally, Showboat will offer a Fat Tuesday $15,000 sweepstakes on February 21st.  This promotion invites guests to swipe Total Rewards cards at any promotional kiosk from 2pm to 6pm, with drawings at 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, and 7pm.  At the 7pm drawing, 11 randomly selected winners will receive a mini King Cake, and one of the traditional Mardi Gras desserts will contain a mini baby figurine buried deep inside; the Total Rewards member who finds the figurine will win the grand prize.

And for the main event, the House of Blues Casino Party Pit hosts Showboat’s 4th Annual Fat Tuesday King Cake Eating World Championship.  On February 21st  at 3pm, this open to the public event features twelve of the world’s best competitive eaters, as they gather to consume as many dense and sticky king cakes as humanly possible. The winner will receive fame, glory and a part of the $4,000 cash prize for this Major League Eating sanctioned event.  Such heavyweight competitors include: Sean “Flash” Gordon of Downingtown, PA; Micah “Candyman” Collins of Drexel Hill, PA; Bob “Notorious B.O.B.” Shoudt of Royersford, PA; the 105 pound Sonya “the Black Widow” Thomas of Alexandria, VA; and the current king cake champion Pat “Deep Dish” Bertoletti of Chicago, IL.
