More Summer Changes in Atlantic City
So much is changing in this town, it’s hard to keep up with it all. And everyone’s trying to get it done in time for the summer tourist season.
The biggest news is that the Casino Control Commission approved the sale of Trump Marina to Landry’s on Monday. So starting at 6 a.m. Tuesday, it will become the Golden Nugget. This weekend will be the debut of the club Red Room, with DJ Ultragrrrl kicking things off. After the inaugural weekend, it will be open at 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. New restaurants will open in there soon.
The beach bars are going back up in the sand, in time for opening this weekend. You’ll find them at Bally’s, Trump Plaza, the Hilton, and yes, the Deck at the soon-to-be Golden Nugget. That means a nice outdoor setting during the day for a drink or light meal with a friend, and an all-out party once the sun goes down.
Chef Luke Palladino opened his restaurant at Harrah’s. The former chef at Specchio at the Borgata, he has a small restaurant in neighboring Northfield that has gotten great reviews. I’m looking forward to trying this one soon.
Torch, a new bar at Resorts, opened last weekend on the dining level. It features plush chairs and tables for games like backgammon and checkers. Specializing in Scotch whiskey, it sells most drinks by the shot. They had a nice spread of food out on Friday night, and a casino rep told me it will be standard fare. It will be open in the evening.
The Foundation Room at Showboat is having a cigar dinner on June 3. The $99 admission includes two stogies, Scotch tastings and a special menu. Call 609-343-4523 to make a reservation.
Atlantic City icon White House subs, opened a branch on the parking level of the Taj Mahal. They have some awesome sandwiches, so it’s a souvenir you can bring home with you for a later meal.
I’m sure I forgot something, there’s so much going on. But Atlantic City will be a hopping place to be this summer.
