The Memorial Day weekend has started, and cars are streaming into town. That means crowded casinos, lots of people on the boardwalk and the beach bars are open. The ocean is still pretty cold, but should warm up in another month or so. Don’t forget to take a dip while you’re in town.

In general news, a state senator and former Atlantic City mayor is talking about easing restrictions on gaming in Atlantic City. One thing he’s suggesting is allowing casino-hotels with as few as 250 or 300 rooms. Some fear the “boutique casinos” could lend a cheesy feeling to Atlantic City, while others like the idea. Some of my favorite places in Vegas are the smaller ones, so I’m in favor of it as long as there are standards to make sure they don’t turn into grind joints.

Caesars is having another promotion next weekend, and it appears to be a good one. Play May 29 and 30 and earn gift cards to Brookstone. Conveniently, you can spend them in the store on the Pier at Caesars. From the signs I saw on the property last weekend, the deal is pretty good. Earn just 100 base Total Rewards credits, and get a $25 gift card. Earn 250 credits for a $50 card, and so forth. It’s an easy way to earn a gift for dad or grad, or maybe a treat for yourself.
