There’s more to frighten you in Atlantic City on Halloween weekend besides the prospect of losing a ton of money in the casinos. Ghouls, goblins, and other spooky critters will haunt the town, as casinos hold Halloween parties.

If you’re a high-enough roller, and I’m not, you’ll get invited to a costume ball at your favorite casino. But for us regular folks, costume opportunities abound.

All of the Borg’s nightclubs will be howling next weekend with parties and DJs. If you want to dress up for a chance at a cash prize, head to mixx, murmur or the Gypsy Bar on Mischief Night, Saturday night. Mixx will also have a costume contest on Halloween night, and murmur will host one November 1, for people who had to work on the weekend. In all, they’ll give out $20,000 in cash prizes for the most creative get-ups.

The Trop is going with a Roaring Twenties theme in honor of the “Boardwalk Empire” series on HBO. The judging starts at 10 p.m. on Saturday, October 30 in The Quarter.  There will be prizes for the best 20s costume, the best overall costume, the best group and the best couple.

Didn’t win? No problem. The Providence nightclub will hold its own costume contest than night, and Hooters, Firewaters and A Dam Good Sports Bar will all have contests on Sunday night. If you want an early opinion as to whether your costume has what it takes to win, Planet Rose is having a contest on October 28.

The Casbah at the Taj Mahal holds its annual Asylum party starting at 9 p.m. October 30. Come in your sexiest, scariest or most original costume for a chance at a prize. Tickets are $20 in advance or $30 at the door. Get them early, because it usually sells out. If mob scenes aren’t your scene, the Ego Lounge is having a costume contest at 8 p.m. Print your free entry ticket from a Trump One rewards kiosk.

Trump Marina is having a costume contest at 9 p.m. October 30. That’s usually held in the Atrium lobby.

And of course, there’s holiday themed entertainment all over town. Costumes are usually OK on the casino floor, but you have to take off your mask and refrain from painting your face for security reasons.

Happy Halloween to all, with plenty of treats and no tricks.
