Atlantic City – The Golden Nugget Atlantic City continues to open the doors of the newly renovated Showroom for headline acts, and this spring the entertainment continues with a variety of acts. In March The Showroom hosts Paula Poundstone as well as four performances by The Platters, Cornell Gunter’s Coasters and The Marvelettes, and in April guests will be entertained when Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and The Machine (Pink Floyd tribute band) take center stage.

Paula Poundstone – Appearing on stage with a stool, a microphone, and a can of Diet Pepsi, Paula Poundstone is famous for her razor-sharp wit and spontaneity. The Boston Globe said, “Poundstone improvises with a crowd like a Jazz musician…swinging in unexpected directions without a plan, without a net.”  In 1989, she won the American Comedy Award for “Best Female Stand-Up Comic.” Paula was number 88 on Comedy Central’s 2004 list of the 100 greatest stand-ups of all time and Paula is so quick and unassuming that audience members at her live shows often leave complaining that their cheeks hurt from laughter.  Guests can laugh along with Poundstone during her one-night performance in the newly renovated Showroom on Saturday, March 3 at 8 p.m.

The Platters, Cornell Gunter’s Coasters and The Marvelettes  – Known for their electrifying renditions of such rock ‘n’ roll classics including “My Prayer,” “Please Mr. Postman,” “Charlie Brown,” “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes,” “Yakety Yak” and 29 additional million-selling songs, these three pioneering groups encompass the entire spectrum of classic rock ‘n’ roll. The Platters are the consummate purveyors of the power-ballad love song with enchanting harmonies. The Cornell Gunter Coasters represent raucous, comedy-oriented song stylings with smooth, synchronized choreography, and The Marvelettes are known for their Motown sound, while encompassing stirring anthems craftily interwoven with high intensity, upbeat rhythms. This trilogy of historic rock ‘n’ roll legends and soulful hits will perform Friday, March 9 at 9 p.m., Saturday, March 10 at 6 p.m. & 9 p.m. and Sunday, March 11 at 2 p.m.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy – Since their arrival on the music scene in 1993 in a legendary residency at Los Angeles’ Brown Derby nightclub, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s irresistible live show and aggressive, musically perceptive approach has proven them over time to be the singular standout among the numerous bands that launched the Nineties swing revival. The seven-man group forged a massively successful fusion of classic American sounds from jazz, swing, Dixieland and big-band music, building their own songbook of original dance tunes, and, sixteen years later, BBVD is a veteran force that to this day adds new fans by the roomful every time they play. Catch the swinging sounds of the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on Saturday, April 14 at 8 p.m.

The Machine – America’s top Pink Floyd show has forged a 20 year reputation of excellence, extending the legacy of Pink Floyd, while creating another legacy all their own. Over the years, The Machine has touched the hearts and souls of many, selling out theaters, large clubs and casinos across North and Central America, Europe and Asia.  The New York based band focuses on making every show an authentic Floydian experience for their fans. Known for performing a diverse mix of The Floyd’s extensive 16-album repertoire (complete with faithful renditions of popular hits as well as obscure gems), The Machine’s stellar musicianship, dramatic lighting and video, and their passionate delivery sets them above and beyond the rest. Rock on with The Machine Saturday, April 28 at 9 p.m.
