Gearing Up for a Big Weekend in Atlantic City
First the bad news. Atlantic City casino revenue slipped by 9.6% in January, compared to January 2008. The Hilton and Resorts saw the biggest losses, while Harrah’s and the Borgata almost held their own.
Now the good news. President’s Day weekend and Valentine’s Day come together this year, and if the weather holds out, it traditionally means big crowds on the boardwalk. If you have extra money in your bank account in these tough times, many casinos will help you part with it as you treat your significant other to a romance-filled weekend.
The Pier at Caesars mall is having a special event Friday and Saturday. They’re advertising champagne bars, chocolate tastings and specials in the store to lure in the romantically inclined – and those who just like champagne and chocolate. Many casinos have Valentine’s specials that include a room, use of the pool or spa and breakfast in bed. Check your favorite property’s Web page for details. These packages are usually pricey and booked way in advance, but today’s At The Shore free weekly listed several specials still open. So if you have the spare cash, you might get a bargain on a package deal.
If crowds aren’t your thing, you might want to come next weekend, when the Atlantic City Home Show comes to the Convention Center. A weekend admission ticket costs $7.50, with discounts available, and they’re promising some good deals on home improvements if that’s what you’re in the market for. There’s also a food and wine tasting row, which almost anyone will love. I know I will. Pick up a copy of At The Shore when you’re in town for a $1 off coupon.
