Free Concerts in Atlantic City
If you like sitting under the summer sun and stars and listening to some great music, your season of joy is about to begin.
The City of Atlantic City and its public libraries are sponsoring a series of five free concerts in Gardner’s Basin. For non-locals who don’t know where that is, head north on Pacific or Atlantic Avenues. Pass the Showboat and where they’re building the Revel, and then turn left on New Hampshire Avenue. Gardner’s Basin is at the end of the road.
Gardner’s Basin itself is a nice spot. There are several cool restaurants, the Atlantic City Aquarium, a place to watch boats and you can hop onto a fishing boat or Atlantic City Cruises for a ride on the water. The boat rides come at a price, of course.
The first concert of summer is scheduled for June 5, starting at 1 p.m. Local bands Ray Smith Calypso & More and Tony Day with Across the Globe will start off the show. Then the Legendary Intruders and Meli’sa Morgan will play, with headliners Black Ivory concluding at dusk.
If you get hungry and don’t want a sit-down meal, food vendors will be happy to sell you a snack. The city’s healthmobile will also be there to do free screenings for certain conditions.
Feel free to bring your lawn chair, blanket, umbrella or whatever else you need to stay comfortable for the day.
The Chicken Bone Beach Foundation also hold free concerts on the Boardwalk in the Summer. I’ll let you know about those as soon as they release the schedule.
