   Just when you thought we had enough holidays, Warner Brothers entertainment has declared New Year’s day to be National Hangover Day. OK, it’s not an official holiday, but if you’re hung over, you’ll have a lot of company.

   Caesars will celebrate the day with a free screening of the hit comedy, “The Hangover,” in the Circus Maximus theater at 7 p.m. January 1.  Best of all, admission is free. They’ll also give away DVD and Blue Ray copies of the movie, as well as other prizes.

   If your favorite hangover remedy is the hair of the dog that bit you, the Toga bar and Dusk nightclub will have drink specials. If food is your cure, check out the specials at the Mia restaurant.

   If you have some last minute shopping to do today, or want to pick up a present for yourself with your holiday cash, check out the Trump Exchange store on the second level of the Taj Mahal. They have all sorts of stuff you can buy with your comps. But if you pay with cash or a credit card, everything is half-price. I’m not sure how long it lasts, or if the Marina and Plaza stores are part of the promotion. Most of the stuff is overpriced to begin with, but at half-off, you might find something you want at a good price. Some of the Christmas stuff is already marked down, and more should be discounted by Saturday.

   If there’s a foodie on your holiday gift list, here’s something they’re sure to appreciate. Especially if they’re like me and like eating a lot more than they like cooking.

   Get them a gift certificate for a meal (or two) during Atlantic City Restaurant Week 2010. It’s happening February 28 through March 6, 2010, and dozens of restaurants in Atlantic City and vicinity are already in. The price will be $15.10 for a prix fixe lunch or $33.10 for dinner off a special menu. The recipient can use the certificate at the restaurant of their choice during that week. Tips and booze aren’t included in the certificate.

   Pick up the gift certificates in person at the information center in Boardwalk Hall or the welcome center at milepost 3.5 on the Atlantic City Expressway. You can order by phone at 1-888-228-4748 or online using Paypal at http://www.acrestaurantweek.com/gift_certificates.aspx, but they’ll add a $2 handling fee if you do it that way or if you pay with a credit card in person. No fee if you pay cash at one of the two visitor information sites.

   Log on to www.acrestaurantweek.com to see which eateries are participating. A few have already posted their menus. Drool! Of course, there’s no need to reserve your table this far in advance, and you can always pay when you’ve finished eating.

   OK, Black Friday is over. Maybe you joined the crowds at the mall and big-box stores and maybe you didn’t. I didn’t. It was crowded enough in the casinos on Friday.

   But you still have to shop. If you want to combine that with a trip to Atlantic City, The Walk retail outlets have a good deal for you. From noon to 8 p.m. daily until December 23, you can get free valet parking at The Walk. No paying to park in casino garages and hauling your purchases back. Free valet parking, that’s right. Don’t forget to tip the attendant.

   If you’re like me and your gift-wrapping talents leave a little to be desired, they’ll gift-wrap your same-day purchases for free. I’m sure a tip would be appreciated there, too

Then there will be some specials. Vive Day Spa will offer chair massages. No word if they’re free or you have to pay.

   If you’re on a budget, and who isn’t these days, Franny the Shopaholic, a columnist from The Press of Atlantic City, will be on hand Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. to give hints on frugal gifts. Sports fans may want to stop by December 16 from 5 to 7 p.m., when former Philadelphia Flyer Brian Propp will meet with fans and sign autographs.

   If you have comps in your account at the casinos, you can use them for shopping. The Destination Shops at Resorts and Hilton have some nice things you can pay for with comp dollars, and Trump Exchange at The Donald’s three properties does the same. Trump Exchange will have a 20 percent discount December 6, and tow 30-percent off days later in the month. Your friends don’t have to know you got it for free.

   Sure, you have to buy gifts for your loved ones. But if you’re a gambler - or even if you’re not - you don’t have to wait in line in the wee hours of Black Friday to pick up cheap stuff from Target and KMart. And if you are a gambler, you can even get some of the stuff for free.

   Caesars is having a promotion in partnership with its shopping pier. For every 500 points players earn between now and December 11, not counting play on Saturdays, they get a $25 gift card for The Pier at Caesars. Swipe your Total Rewards card in the special promotional kiosk to begin. To get you started, gold-level players get 50 bonus points, platinum get 100, diamond get 200 and Seven Stars get 300 extra points. Pick up the gift cards from 3 to 9 p.m. Dec. 18 and 19.

   If last-minute shopping isn’t your bag, The Pier will have all sorts of specials on Black Friday and the next day. Total Rewards card holders can get into the pier at 8 a.m. November 27, an hour earlier than the general public. Show your player’s card, and you’ll get a coupon book for all sorts of special deals in the shops and restaurants. If you’re too weary from stuffing yourself on Thanksgiving and watching all that football, it’s OK to come later or on Saturday. Both days, show your Total Rewards card and get the discounts.

   Several stores are offering discounts on their own, so you don’t even need a Total Rewards card. But the cards are free to anyone age 21 or older who has a pulse, and no play is required. Be sure to check the information desk at the entrance to the pier. I was there last weekend, and there were several leaflets offering good discounts sitting on the counter.

   Of course, most of the stuff in the pier is pricey, so these discounts will help if you want to do some high-end shopping for someone on your list.
