If you’re like me, and too cheap to spring for HBO on your home TV, this is something you may want to go to.

“The Boardwalk Empire,” a story  that takes place in Atlantic City in the 1920s, premieres Sunday night at 9 p.m. on HBO. If you’re not a subscriber, or feel like watching it in a crowd, Caesars is hosting a viewing party in its Circus Maximus theater. The best news is that it’s free.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the program begins with a presentation by several old-timers, historians and other experts about Atlantic City during that time period. They’ll talk about the times, what Atlantic City was like back then, what life was like for African-Americans and other ethnic groups, the attractions that brought people to the boardwalk, and the customs of the time. The show will air at 9 p.m.

Admission is free, but limited to people age 21 or over. You have to show ID.

Advance reservations are accepted, and will guarantee you a seat before the general public is let in. Logon to www.acweekly.com/empire to reserve your spot. Maybe I’ll see you there.
