A Mistake to Go to Atlantic City?
I stayed home all day Sunday, going through the papers, working the crossword puzzle, and doing stuff around the house. At about 6 in the evening, I got a case of cabin fever and decided to hit the Borgata. I had $25 in bounceback cash coming, an iffy amount to make a trip to pick up.
The place was packed. There was a specially large crowd whooping and hollering around the new Sex and the City slot machine. I didn’t stick around to watch, as I had no desire to play it and I’m sure there was a long wait if I did.
I played my usual video poker, and didn’t do very well. So I decided to get a bite to eat and a stiff drink in the Amphora Lounge. The wait to get in there was half an hour, and I was growing hungrier by the minute. Of course, the food was worth it when I finally got to a table.
After dinner, I came back upstairs, slightly toasted, and played more video poker. I couldn’t do a thing. I got four 4-of-a-kinds all night, playing for about five hours. That’s way below average.
On the way home in a rainstorm, I started thinking I should have just stayed home. But wait a minute. If I had won instead of lost, would I rue having ventured to Atlantic City? Of course not.
The moral of this story is decide in advance if the offer you have is worth the trouble, and of course, do you feel like hitting the casinos at the moment. Then follow your instinct. The result is up to Lady Luck.
