New Service to Atlantic City International Airport

Posted by: Cory Nelson  :  Category: ACES Train Service, Atlantic City Transportation

Just in time for summer, there will be a new way for out-of-towners to get to Atlantic City.

AirTran Airways recently inked a deal with Atlantic City International Airport to run two flights a day to and from Atlanta. Travelers can connect to Atlanta from more than 35 other cities where AirTran flies.

To get people interested, AirTran is offering a special $69 one-way fare if you book by April 16. Service is scheduled to start June 11.

Of course, people who live in the Atlantic City area can use AirTran for their travel instead of having to go to the Philadelphia airport.

Another topic under discussion, but not finalized, is the idea of redirecting 10% of the flights that go into Philadelphia to the Atlantic City airport. That would relieve congestion in Philly, and bring more business into AC. That’s just in the talking stages for now.

In other transportation news, the ACES train between New York and Atlantic City has lowered its one-way coach fare to $39 for a couple of specific trains. You have to leave AC at 10 a.m. on a Friday or leave New York at 11 p.m. to get the special deal. First-class fare is $25 extra.

Atlantic City Customer Service - Part 2

Posted by: Cory Nelson  :  Category: Casino Customer Service

I went on and on a few weeks ago about how ”Atlantic City customer service” seemed to be an oxymoron, something that could not exist. Well, now it’s time to share a good experience.

A buddy and I booked rooms at the Borgata the other night. We had a nice dinner, both lost in the casino and enjoyed the pool and hot tub. I was running a little late when I arrived, so I took my car to the valet.

When I went down to claim my car the next morning, the area was packed. It was check-out time, and a lot of people were waiting.

Nonetheless, I had a reasonable 10-minute wait for my car. But I was surprised to notice that the driver was wearing a suit, not a valet uniform. I see you got pressed into service, I said. Yes, he answered, when it gets backed up, I pitch in wherever I can. I asked his usual job, and he said he was the director of transportation.

Even though it was clear I was quite capable of doing so myself, this manager insisted on loading my bag in the trunk of my car. As I handed him my ticket and a tip, he said, “The drivers thank you. I’ll pass it on to them.” The transaction took less than two minutes, but he was very pleasant and it brightened my day.

I was impressed that a director would jump in to perform the job when necessary. I thought back on all the jobs I’ve held over the years, and could think of precious few times the supervisors would pick up the slack when the rank-and-file got swamped.

I’ve heard that Borgata employees are the happiest among Atlantic City casino employees. With managers like this gentleman, I can see why.

Resorts Casino Hotel brings back coin-operated slot machines

Posted by: Matt Bourie  :  Category: Atlantic City Casinos, Atlantic City Entertainment, Casino Promotions, Resorts Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – March 11, 2009 – In November 2007, Resorts Casino Hotel brought “Boogie” back to Atlantic City with the launch of the ultimate ‘70s and ‘80s dance club Boogie Nights. On April 3, 2009, Resorts will once again “go retro” and bring the “jingle” back to the casino floor with the debut of its coin-operated Boogie Nights slot machines.

“The sound of coins crashing into a slot tray after a jackpot is hit became synonymous with the thrill of casino action,” said John Pasqualoni, Chief Operating Officer of Resorts Casino Hotel. “With the debut of the Boogie Nights slot machine, that thrill is back.”

The Boogie Nights slot machines will be located next to Resorts “25 Hours” casino bar, just steps away from the Hotel Lobby of the Rendezvous Tower at Resorts. These retro, coin-operated machines will feature the bright and shimmering colors of the ‘70s and ‘80s, and when winning combinations are hit, players will enjoy a variety of music from each era. Boogie Nights slot machines will be dollar slot machines, with a $3 maximum coin bet.

Assisting in the launch of these coin machines will be ‘70s and ‘80s pop icon Danny Bonaduce who rose to fame on The Partridge Family, and now currently hosts the morning drive radio program on Philadelphia’s WYSP, 94.1 FM. The celebration of the return of coins Resorts casino will continue with a party that evening in Boogie Nights hosted by Bonaduce. The party will feature a new “Bonaduce” vodka-based cocktail – concocted by Danny himself - added to the Boogie Nights drink menu.

The launch of the Boogie Nights Slots will signal the beginning of “The Grooviest Boogie Nights Weekend Ever!” From April 3 through April 5, Resorts will also extend the Boogie Nights theme into its table game offerings with a ‘70s and ‘80s-themed Party Pit featuring costumed dealers, themed table game felts and music from that time period. In addition, Resorts will offer a special menu, with ‘70s and ‘80s prices, in The Buffet all weekend.

In addition to themed events for invited casino players, Destination Club card holders who earn one point through rated slot or table play will also receive a commemorative Boogie Nights T-Shirt. Resorts employees will be dressed in their favorite attire from the Boogie Nights era to add to the atmosphere. And, Resorts’ Boogie Nights night club will be open Friday and Saturday, starting at 9pm each night.

“Just like the dance club Boogie Nights, these machines and the Party Pit are intrinsically entertaining with the imagery and the music,” added Pasqualoni. “It’s all about bringing additional fun and excitement to the guest, and certainly that’s what Boogie Nights, and in particular, this Boogie Nights Weekend, is all about.”

Boogie Nights, one of the hottest dance clubs in Atlantic City and the host site of the first-ever Atlantic City Nightlife Awards, is open every Friday and Saturday night. Boogie Nights celebrates the music, style and pop culture of the 70s and 80s. Guests are treated to their favorite disco, pop and dance hits, spun by the hottest DJs in the area.  The light up dance floor, spectacular light show and giant video screens displaying music videos and visual imagery from the ‘70s and ‘80s set the retro mood and invite customers to hit the dance floor underneath the giant mirror ball.

Boogie Nights guests are transported to another place in time. Funky furniture, disco mannequins and other memorabilia are on display. Among the many characters at Boogie Nights, guests can expect to see Roller Girl zipping around on rollers skates, Mr. Boogie the Emcee, hula hoopers, celebrity impersonators, and the sexy Boogie Nights Dancers.

Boogie Nights is located on the Dining Level between The Ballroom and Capriccio. Doors open at 9 pm.  Table reservations, VIP seating and bottle service available. To reserve a VIP table, customers can call the Boogie Nights Hotline at 609.340.7698.

Harrah’s Atlantic City properties woo back customers

Posted by: Cory Nelson  :  Category: Casino Promotions, The Borgata

A lot of Atlantic City gamblers have left Harrah’s Entertainment properties after they reduced the full-pay video poker and cut way back on promotional offers for players. Now management apparently realizes the mistake and is trying to get the customers back.

Players have gotten mail offers that if they earn a given number of base Reward Credits (1 credit equals $5 played through a slot machine or $10 played through video poker) by March 31, they will get a coupon in the mail good for free slot play in April or May. Mine was to earn 560 Reward Credits by the end of March, and I’d get $50 in free play. For each 250 Reward Credits I earn above and beyond that, I get an extra $5 in free play.

The offers seem to be based on people’s average play before they left Showboat, Bally’s or whatever for greener pastures. So some players might have to earn 1,000 points to get $90 in free play, or other formulas. At least for me, it will be worth spending an evening at Showboat to earn this  deal. It’s even better if you can combine it with a Reward Credit multiplier day.

On a different note, the posh Water Club at the Borgata is the latest to fall victim to hard times. The hotel will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights at least through April, the Atlantic City Press reported today. So if you want to indulge, you’ll have to either “settle” for their regular rooms, which are quite nice, or visit on the weekends.

Favorite Atlantic City Casino

Posted by: Cory Nelson  :  Category: Atlantic City Casinos

People often ask me what’s my favorite casino in Atlantic City. It’s a tough question to answer. The casinos all want to cultivate loyalty to one gaming hall _ their own.

But I gamble the way I shop. I can count the brand-name products that I buy faithfully on one hand, and still have fingers left over. When I go to the supermarket or drug store, I determine what I need, and then see what brand is on sale, what I have a coupon for (preferably both at once), and who’s offering a mail-in rebate.

I do the same thing for my casino play. First of all, if the place doesn’t have decent full-play video poker at the levels I play, they don’t get my business. At the end of every month, I take all my mailed offers and put them in chronological order. Then every Sunday night I look through the next week’s offers and determine which, if any, I’m interested in. The quality of the offers and the other things going on in my life help me decide where I’ll play for the week.

Of course, I have a core casino. But that core has changed several times over the years as the casinos put in or took out video-poker machines, tightened or loosened comps or closed restaurants I like. But I’m never loyal to my core. If my primary casino is Property A, and Property B sends me an offer for $50 in free play, guess where I’ll be?

And then I change my mind for other circumstances. I’m a local, so I don’t need rooms. But if I want a mini-vacation, I’ll usually pick the Borgata because they have the nicest rooms and I can get it comped. If a friend is coming in from out-of-town, I’ll meet them wherever they’re staying. I’m always flexible.

You have to decide for yourself where to play. Who has the games you like? If you’re from out of town, who has the rooms you enjoy staying in? Who serves your favorite food? Who gives you the most mailed offers, cashback and comps for your style of play?

Have fun choosing. And always let them know if they don’t give you what you want, you’ll take your gambling bankroll elsewhere.

Bargains Galore in Atlantic City

Posted by: Cory Nelson  :  Category: Atlantic City Casinos, Atlantic City restaurants
I was driving up the Black Horse Pike out of Atlantic City the other night, and saw a bunch of dingy hotels offering “bargain” rates of $25 to $30 a night. When I say “dingy,” I mean dives, dumps, places that prostitutes rent by the hour. Places you wouldn’t let your dog stay in overnight.

And I thought, why share your accommodations with mice and cockroaches, when for the same price, or maybe a few bucks more, you can have a luxurious casino-hotel room to call your own? Times are tough, and with fewer people coming to Atlantic City, the casinos are lowering their room rates. I’ve seen the Showboat offer rooms for $29 a night through March, which is not bad. Logon to The American Casino Guide Reservations page to see some current offers.

These offers are for the general public. If you have any history of gambling at the casino, you can get the room for much less, if not for free. It also helps to sign up for the casino’s e-mail lists, even if you’re not a player. I’ve gotten offers for free rooms in Las Vegas, including the Bellagio and Monte Carlo, where I’ve given them little or no play.

Here’s another great deal. Atlantic City Restaurant Week was extended through March 14, and about 50 eateries are in on it. Logon to www.acrestaurantweek.com to see who’s participating. Lunches are $15.09 per person and dinners $33.09 with choices for a select menu.

A friend and I had dinner at Izakaya at the Borgata over the weekend, and it was quite good for the money. Another friend raved about his experience at Il Mulino at the Taj Mahal. Get these deals while they’re hot. Once the weather breaks, they’ll be gone with the tide.

LARGEST BAD BEAT JACKPOT IN AC HISTORY HIT AT BORGATA

Posted by: Matt Bourie  :  Category: Atlantic City Casinos, Casino Promotions, Poker

Winner Michael Richard may have lost the pot of around $800.00, as his quad 7’s were beaten by William Stewart’s quad 10’s. However, in a game where luck plays as much a part as skill, he walked away with $122,487.00 as the Borgata Bad Beat Jackpot winner, taking home his large share of the record-setting $306,225.00 jackpot.

On Tuesday evening around 9PM in the Borgata Poker Room nine players were dealt a hand in a $2-$5 No Limit Hold’em game. About Bad Beat
The Bad Beat shall apply to the game of Texas Hold’Em only. “Bad Beat” means a high ranking poker hand that is beat by a higher ranking hand (e.g., Four Deuces losing to Four Nines). In order for a hand to be eligible to qualify for a Bad Beat, the pot must meet a minimum of $20. A minimum of four players must be seated and dealt in at the beginning of the hand in order to qualify for the Bad Beat. To qualify for the Bad Beat Jackpot, a player must have four Deuces or better beaten. If the winning or losing player has made a Four-of-a-Kind, that player must have a pocket pair to qualify (example: if a player has four Eights, he/she must have a pocket pair of Eights with two Eights on the board). Both the winning and losing hands must use both of their hole cards to create the highest possible hand.
